National Consumer Rights Day

In India, 24th December is observed as 'National Consumer Rights Day', since the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was enacted on this day with the objective of providing better protection of consumers’ interests. The Act provides for effective safeguards to consumers against various types of exploitations and unfair dealings, relying mainly on compensatory rather than a disciplinary or preventive approach. It applies to all goods and services unless specifically exempted which covers the private, public and cooperative sectors. It also provides speedy and inexpensive adjudication.

Our school also celebrated the day on 24th December 2010. All the students along with the teachers took pledge on consumer rights in the assembly. A speech was given by Saba Nehal of VII D on Consumer Rights.

A poster making competition was also organized on consumer awareness where students from classes VI to X participated with lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The posters included slogans, caricatures, etc. depicting the message of JAGO GRAHAK JAGO.
